Job summary

Hims & Hers, a leading health and wellness platform, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join the clinical laboratory team. You will receive, sort, and accession specimens, enter data into LIS, and prepare samples for testing.

Schedule includes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10AM–6PM. The role requires attention to detail, LIS proficiency, and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Receive and log incoming specimen shipments from multiple carriers per SOPs.
• Verify specimen integrity, labeling, and accompanying test orders for completeness.
• Accession specimens into LIS, linking to patient and test orders.
• Sort and organize specimens by department or test type with proper prioritization.
• Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, centrifuging, labeling, and distributing.
• Communicate with lab staff and UX team about discrepancies or urgent specimens.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all received and processed samples.
• Follow biohazard safety protocols and HIPAA regulations.
• Assist with routine lab support tasks such as inventory and specimen storage.
• Perform other duties as requested by laboratory management.

About the Role:

The Laboratory Assistant is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team responsible for receiving, sorting, and accessioning incoming biological samples from various couriers. This position ensures that specimens are accurately entered into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and prepared for timely processing and testing by laboratory personnel.

Schedule:

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10AM - 6PM

You Will:

• Receive and log incoming specimen shipments from multiple carriers in accordance with standard operating procedures.

• Verify specimen integrity, labeling, and accompanying test order for completeness and accuracy.

• Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), assigning unique identifiers and linking them to the correct patient and test order.

• Sort and organize specimens by department or test type, ensuring correct prioritization and handling.

• Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, centrifuging, labeling, and distributing to appropriate lab departments.

• Communicate promptly with laboratory staff and user experience team regarding discrepancies, missing information, or urgent specimens.

• Maintain accurate documentation of all received and processed samples.

• Follow biohazard safety protocols and ensure compliance with HIPAA and laboratory safety regulations.

• Assist with routine laboratory support tasks such as inventory, specimen storage, and disposal.

• Other duties as requested by laboratory management

You Have:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or completion of a laboratory assistant training program preferred.

• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare environment strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with laboratory procedures, medical terminology, and specimen handling requirements.

• Proficiency in data entry and comfort with laboratory information systems (LIS).

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

• Must be able to lift packages up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
