Job summary

CorePlus is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to receive, process, and prepare clinical specimens for Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology, and Coagulation. You will accession cases for internal and external clients, document quality control data, and ensure proper handling and shipment of specimens.

The role requires attention to safety, accuracy in labeling, and adherence to SOPs. Candidates should have a science-related background and be dedicated to patient care and laboratory excellence.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession and label clinical specimens in the Laboratory Information System (SAIL).
• Verify specimen acceptability (volume, tube type, hemolysis).
• Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories following temperature and handling requirements.
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Perform routine preventive or corrective maintenance.
• Maintain stocked inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Maintain area well-stocked and request necessary supplies.
• Report patient safety issues and specimen deficiencies.
• Review and upkeep QC and maintenance logs.
• Store and dispose of hazardous wastes following safety procedures.
• Follow SOP protocols daily.
• Wear personal protective equipment at all times.
• Perform duties with minimal supervision according to established practices and standards.

The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant receives, processes and prepares all clinical specimens for the laboratory’s Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology and Coagulation departments. The Assistant must be prepared to accession cases for internal and external (B2B) clients, know all procedures involved in specimen processing and reference laboratory shipments, and document pertinent quality control, inventory and credentialing information for the area.

Responsibilities

• Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories, following each laboratory’s temperature control and handling requirements.
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.

• Maintain an adequately stocked inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Maintain area well-stocked and request necessary laboratory supplies.
• Report patient safety issues and specimen deficiencies.
• Review and upkeep QC and maintenance logs
• Store and dispose of hazardous wastes using safety procedures.
• Implement the SOP protocols daily.
• Always wear personal protective equipment.
• Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner with minimal supervision.

Requirements and Skills

• High school graduate; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred
