Job summary

IU Health is hiring a part-time Phlebotomist for the Arnett Hospital Medical Office Building. The role involves specimen collection by venipuncture, order entry, and pre-analytic processing, with related clerical tasks such as handling faxes and calls.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a phlebotomy training program, and strong customer service and interpersonal skills. A valid Indiana driver’s license and comfortable computer use are preferred.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred; laboratory or related science coursework may help.
• May require a valid Indiana Operator's license and good driving history (last 3 years).
• Proven computer skills and telephone communication ability.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory services including specimen collection via venipuncture.
• Handle order entry and blood component preparation.
• Pre-analytic processing of specimens and related clerical tasks (entering orders, answering calls, managing faxes).
• Register patients and specimens as needed and deliver specimens.
• Deliver compassionate customer service to patients and colleagues.

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

The Phlebotomist provides general laboratory services including specimen collection using routine venipuncture, order entry, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens as well as related clerical tasks such as entering orders into the system, answering phone calls, and managing faxes. The incumbent may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens. The ideal incumbent will possess strong customer service skills and be highly compassionate.

• Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
• May require a valid Indiana Operators license and a good driving history for the last three years.
• May require an understanding of the traffic laws in the State of Indiana.
• Requires proven understanding of computers.
• Requires telephone skills.
• Requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
• Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
