Job Description

Pride Health is hiring a Laboratory Assistant to support our client’s Lab Support Services department in Detroit, MI. This is a 13-week contract opportunity in a respected hospital environment with overnight shifts.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant will perform routine lab support functions including specimen pick-up, processing, order entry, and transport. The role may also involve phlebotomy. You will play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate laboratory operations, focusing on patient service and sample integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process patient specimens for testing
  • Enter test orders and patient data into lab information systems
  • Interact courteously with patients and staff; resolve basic inquiries
  • Review lab forms for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in CLIA waived testing after training and competency approval
  • Assist with specimen transport, clerical duties, and equipment operations
  • Occasionally collect blood samples after competency sign-off
  • Instruct patients and caregivers on specimen collection techniques
  • Follow safety, infection control, and hospital protocols
  • Support training and continuing education in the department

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior lab or hospital experience
  • Phlebotomy experience or training required if performing blood draws
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Skills:

  • Proficient in computer data entry
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Flexible, team-oriented, eager to learn
  • Ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods

Additional Information:

  • Location: Detroit, MI 48202
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM, 40 hours/week
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Pay Rate: $16 - $18/hour (based on experience and credentials)
