WashU seeks a Laboratory Animal Technician to provide daily husbandry for non-human primates and mice, with responsibilities across rabbits and other rodents as needed. You will follow SOPs, document activities, and support veterinary staff.
The role requires lifting up to 30 lbs, extensive safety training, rotating weekend and holiday shifts, and opportunities to advance through AAALAS certifications.

Provide and document care and husbandry for non-human primate and rodent animal species in accordance with departmental SOPS and regulations and guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act and the Public Health Service to ensure a quality animal care program that supports the research and teaching at WashU. Work on a rotating weekend and Holiday schedule is required.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Provide and document daily husbandry care primarily for non-human primates (NHPs) and mice but can also provide care for additional species including rabbits, canines and other rodents. Care includes the provision of feed, water, clean cages and enrichment. Sanitize and maintain rodent colony rooms according to schedule to include sweeping and mopping animal quarters and procedure rooms, disinfecting all areas in room, rotating animal cages, cleaning large equipment and stocking room supplies. Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff. Report findings to Supervisor, Facility Manager or DCM Veterinary staff in a timely fashion. Correctly handle and dispose of hazardous wastes according to standard operating procedures. Perform additional duties as required by supervisor/manager/department, which may include hands‑on training of junior-level technicians.
Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and pass a pre‑employment physical exam. Appropriate vaccinations and hearing protection and other PPE are required through participation in the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
