Job summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine, Pediatrics department, seeks a Specialist, Laboratory Animal Research. The role conducts independent projects, designs studies, analyzes data, and trains staff to support ongoing research goals.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, agriculture, veterinary science, biochemistry, chemistry, or field of study related to animal science.
• Experience: Three (3) years working with animals in a research setting or animal hospital; two (2) years in rodent/multi-species procedures preferred.
• Certification/Licensure: RLATg, CVT, or LAT certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent projects and design studies; analyze data and present results.
• Carry out day-to-day lab activities: animal health observations, sample collection, and various diagnostic assays.
• Support surgical procedures, anesthesia, enrichment, safety, and good laboratory practice.
• Manage lab operations including budgeting, ordering supplies, and equipment maintenance.
• Prepare manuscripts and grant proposals; present research findings.
• Prepare study materials and train staff and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
