Job summary

Inotiv is seeking an Animal Care Technician I to support vivarium operations in our Westminster facility. You will provide daily care for laboratory animals, monitor health, and help maintain housing and equipment per SOPs.

No more than 3 years of experience is required, with opportunities for skill growth within a dynamic team. Responsibilities include documenting procedures, handling rodents, and assisting with various lab tasks.

  • Strong communication abilities and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate records.
  • 0-3 years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide food, water, and clean housing to rodents per SOPs.
  • Perform daily health observations and report abnormalities.
  • Handle and restrain rodents.
  • Learn and assist with lab procedures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate facility records and documentation.
  • Sanitize and prepare housing and room supplies.
  • Monitor and record environmental parameters.
  • Operate cage washers, autoclaves, and air flow hoods as directed.
  • May perform euthanasia procedures under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Job description

Responsibilities and Duties

The ACT is responsible for providing exceptional animal care to the research animals at Inotiv. This includes performing daily husbandry and care and of laboratory animals in a research environment as well as sanitization and preparation of animal housing equipment, including operation of a large bulk rack washer. The ACT I may be responsible for performing animal technical procedures and providing animal study support with supervision. The ACT I will work as part of a team conducting routine procedures required for vivarium operation.

  • Provide food, water, and clean housing to rodents according to SOPs
  • Perform daily health observations with demonstrated ability to recognize and report abnormalities and common signs of illness
  • Handle and restrain rodents
  • Learning opportunities to assist research technicians with various lab procedures, but not required
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g. documentation of various facility procedures & metrics)
  • Perform routine facility sanitation procedures; maintain a clean, clutter-free facility
  • Prepare and stock room supplies
  • Monitor and record facility environmental parameters
  • May perform euthanasia procedures as directed
  • Operate husbandry-related equipment (e.g. cage washers, autoclaves, air flow hoods, etc.) using approved procedures
  • Wash and prepare caging and equipment.
  • Maintain work area in an organized, clean, and safe condition
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Education and experience
  • Minimum of High School Diploma required.
  • College courses and/or associates or bachelor's degree in animal science or Husbandry are highly desirable
  • 0-3 years of work experience
Skills and abilities
  • Individuals must demonstrate strong communication skills and be able to work efficiently in individual and team settings.
Performance Requirements
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repetitively
  • Able to work overtime, as needed

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range is $18-$20/hr and will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
