Job summary

EMSL Analytical Inc. in Denver, CO is seeking a full-time asbestos analyst to prepare and analyze bulk materials for asbestos content using PLM, PCM, and TEM, and to enter data into the LIMS system.

Responsibilities include generating reports, performing quality control, and maintaining equipment; a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is preferred, with 0–1 years of lab asbestos experience acceptable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plus.
• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction.
• Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training preferred.
• Some laboratory experience in academic or commercial setting.
• 0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis.
• Ability to distinguish colors for analysis.

• Determine visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material.
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS.
• Perform quality control per QA/QC manual.
• Administrative duties including sample login, data entry, and report distribution.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
• Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
• Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
• Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager

• Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training preferred
• Some Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting
• 0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis
• Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude
• Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance

Available Shift

Position is full time, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
