Job description

ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services in southern Michigan and Ohio. As a national leader in the treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care, ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital is also a pacesetter in Michigan for obstetrics, emergency care, intensive care, infection control, and organ donation.

Under supervision and according to established policies, procedures, and detailed instructions, performs a variety of duties such as:

  1. Obtaining venous blood specimens from neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients in various hospital areas; labeling and transporting specimens to the laboratory.
  2. Preparing 24-hour urine specimens as needed.
  3. Maintaining inventory of supplies, reordering when necessary, and distributing supplies to designated areas.
  4. Assisting in charting and filing laboratory slips, answering phones, and maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  5. Utilizing hospital in-house computer systems and other departmental computers.
  6. Following standard precautions at all times.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills: Completion of a formal phlebotomy program or previous relevant experience demonstrating proficiency in phlebotomy. Ability to interact effectively and draw blood from patients of all ages, including newborns and the elderly. Basic computer skills for using in-house and departmental systems.
Experience: 1 to 3 months of on-the-job training to familiarize with department and hospital procedures.

Working Conditions:

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Exposure to odors, infectious materials, toxins, and other hazards.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to move freely, stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and bend or stretch as needed. Flexibility to work varying schedules, including overtime and different shifts, based on patient census and staffing needs.
