Job Description

Registers patient; and accepts, verifies, logs, examines, sorts, aliquots, prepares, and distributes/stores specimens in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Enters or reports lab results per procedures. Maintains operating supply levels and work areas. Performs phlebotomy, as needed.

Job Responsibilities

1. Registers patients following proper coding procedures.
2. Receives orders in the Laboratory Information System.
3. Verifies collection lists.
4. Logs test orders.
5. Uses centrifuge to spin down appropriate tubes.
6. Examines specimens for unacceptability and takes appropriate actions. Documents necessary information.
7. Separates and aliquots blood and urine specimens, as needed. Places tubes not requiring aliquoting into appropriate racks.
8. Processes specimens to prepare for testing and resulting.
9. Measures 24-hour urine tests, records volumes, and aliquots for ordered tests.
10. Generates labels via Laboratory Information Systems.
11. Delivers specimens to appropriate areas.
12. Draws blood from patients.
13. Maintains proper levels of supplies.
14. Enters reference lab results.
15. Notifies physician (or appropriate personnel) of critical values and documents notification.
16. Maintains cleanliness of work area and follows established safety and infection control procedures.
17. May transport specimens, reports, or supplies between various offsite locations.
18. Performs related duties as required.

ADA Essential Functions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent sitting, bending, standing, walking, carrying small objects. Occasional pushing, stooping, stretching, pulling, lifting (objects 5 to 10 lbs).

Job Qualifications

3. Flex evening shift hours can vary: 1p-9p, 2p-10p, 3p-11p, 4p-12a.
4. Flex position, may have day shift coverage as needed.
