Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Employee Discipline to manage labor relations matters, arbitrations, and administrative discipline cases for the district.

You will advise CPS clients, defend the Board in labor arbitrations and state board proceedings, and help shape employment policies. A JD from an ABA-accredited school and Illinois licensure are required; 1 year post‑JD experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school is required.
• Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Illinois is required.
• Experience in labor, employment, and administrative law is preferred and beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Litigate grievance arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, and discipline hearings; handle labor relations matters.
• Advise CPS clients and school principals on labor and employee relations issues.
• Defend the Board in labor arbitrations and before state and education boards; review policies for legal compliance.
