The technician participates in instrument counts, aids with patient positioning, and helps maintain surgical readiness and infection prevention protocols.

Qualifications

• Formal education in surgical technology or practical nursing is required.
• Certifications or licensure as applicable for Surgical Technician roles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating room and ensure all instruments, equipment and supplies are ready for procedures.
• Maintain a sterile field and apply universal precautions during surgery.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently.
• Inspect, clean, and sterilize instruments according to hospital policy.
• Assist with sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse.
