Job summary

HCA Florida Mercy Hospital in Miami is seeking a Charge Nurse L&D-nights to lead our busy Labor & Delivery unit. You will oversee admission/discharge processes, support high-acuity obstetric care, and mentor staff while collaborating with physicians, neonatal specialists, and nursing leadership.

As a leader on nights, you will drive quality of care, coordinate with the management team, and participate in initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and staff engagement.

Qualifications

  • RN License and degree as required.
  • ACLS, BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation certifications due within 30 days.
  • Advanced/Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certifications or Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification within 30 days.
  • 2–3 years of L&D RN experience preferred; leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality patient care.
  • Participates in ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services in the unit.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and managers to foster teamwork and better outcomes.
  • Supports a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when needed.
  • Leads nurse staffing and scheduling according to patient care needs and productivity guidelines.
  • Provides recommendations on interviewing, selecting, and training new staff; may implement action plans and disciplinary actions.
  • Manages inventory and supplies in unit to ensure availability.

Our Labor & Delivery team works collaboratively with physicians, neonatal specialists, and experienced nursing leaders to provide exceptional care for routine and high-risk pregnancies. The Charge Nurse ensures and delivers high quality, patient-centered care and coordination of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift. In collaboration with other members of the management team, the CNC directs, monitors, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures, serves as a resource person for staff, and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

What you will do in this role:
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.

  • Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.

  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and other managers to create an environment of teamwork that supports improved outcomes and service.

  • Supports a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary.

  • Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including employee rounding, hourly rounds, and other initiatives.

  • Provides recommendations related to interviewing, selecting, and training new staff. Recommends and implements courses of action, including training and development, conflict resolution, personnel policy compliance, completion of performance evaluations, and/or disciplinary actions to ensure a competitively better organization.

  • Assists with staff scheduling. Manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.

  • Supports proper inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment

What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • (RN) Registered Nurse

  • Associate Degree

  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring, or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, or Cert Electronic Fetal Monitoring must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • 2-3 years experience as a RN in L&D-preferred

  • 2-3 years experience Required in a Leadership position-preferred

We encourage applications from RNs with at least 2-3 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience. Nurses with experience managing high-volume and high-acuity obstetric patients are especially encouraged to apply.
