Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a highly skilled associate attorney to join its dynamic labor and employment practice. The ideal candidate will work on a wide range of labor and employment law matters, including traditional labor issues, union-related matters, collective bargaining, discrimination laws, and wage and hour laws. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid remote work opportunity and is open to multiple office locations across the Northeast.
Location:
Duties:
- Conduct in-depth research on various labor and employment law matters.
- Draft employee handbooks, policies, and other related documentation.
- Prepare position statements and responses to administrative charges (EEOC, NY State Division of Human Rights, CT Commission on Human Rights).
- Communicate directly with clients to gather necessary information for position statements.
- Draft motions for federal and state court cases.
- Respond to discovery requests and prepare relevant legal documents.
- Prepare deposition outlines, exhibits, and witnesses, and serve as first or second chair in depositions.
- Assist senior attorneys in preparing for mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
- Serve as second chair, and where appropriate, first chair in mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
- Meet the firm's annual billable hours target of 1,800 hours.
Requirements:
- 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment law or litigation.
- Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
- Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred, or ability to waive in).
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing with the state bar.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to quickly absorb, process, and understand new information.
- High standards of performance, with strong dedication and responsibility.
- Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude.
- Ability to work well with diverse personalities at various levels of the organization.
- Military experience is welcomed.
Education:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
- Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred).
