Job summary

AtlantiCare is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform standard laboratory tests and provide clinical interpretation of results in accordance with established procedures.

The role emphasizes quality control, instrument maintenance, and adherence to universal precautions, with opportunities to contribute to quality improvement initiatives and teamwork in a hospital lab setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited medical technology program or meets FDA qualifications for CLIA standards.
  • ASCP eligible or equivalent; certification must be maintained if not grandfathered; CEUs required annually.
  • Certification must be obtained within 24 months of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tests in compliance with established standards and verifies results.
  • Applies specimen procurement, instrument operation, and maintenance; follows universal precautions and monitors inventory.
  • Performs and documents quality control procedures and proficiency testing; collaborates with supervisor to address quality issues.
  • Supports quality customer service and participates in performance improvement and teamwork.

Sign-on bonus of $25,000 available to applicable candidates.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Technologist performs laboratory testing procedures and provides clinical result interpretation according to established procedures, ensuring quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

Performs tests in compliance with established departmental standards; reviews and verifies results to ensure data validity and interprets results.

Applies appropriate procedural techniques related to specimen procurement and handling, instrument operation, operator maintenance, application of universal precautions, and inventory monitoring. Participates in the evaluation of new equipment and troubleshoots equipment problems as needed.

Performs and documents quality control procedures and proficiency testing in accordance with established parameters and standards. Works with the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager to resolve quality control, patient or procedural problems and recommends enhancements to laboratory procedures.

Supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrates commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited medical technology program or meets FDA qualifications for CLIA (1988 Clinical Lab Improvement Amendments) standards for all laboratory and high complexity testing.

License/Certification: MT/MLS/BB/C/H/M/MB/SC/SH/SM ASCP eligible or equivalent (American Medical Technologists - AMT). Required from 24 months of hire date or transfer. Certification must be maintained if not grandfathered from the Board of Registry (BOR) and requires participation in 12 CEUs annually.

Performance Expectations

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements is an employment condition.

Work Environment

Must have the ability to distinguish colors.

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.

This position demands increased amounts of standing, bending and manual manipulation, as well as some light lifting up to 20lbs.

The department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool lists the essential functions of this position.

Core competencies will be assessed primarily to the following patient population(s) served (with the exception of newborns): All diagnoses/conditions of patients admitted to the hospital.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor.
