Job summary

The Sinopec UOP Joint Research Center in Katy, Texas is seeking a Lab Technician II to support scientists and engineers in R&D of petrochemical processes using pilot plant, microreactor, and lab capabilities.

Responsibilities include catalyst preparation, testing, data collection, and maintaining lab safety and documentation. Bachelor’s degree in a science field is required; Texas driver’s license preferred. This is a full-time position in Petrochemical department.

Qualifications

• Experience with catalyst preparation or testing and handling lab equipment.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time while in the lab.
• Good math and chemistry skills to be successful in this position.
• Must have prior experience and understanding of working safely with chemicals in a lab environment.
• Ability to work independently and responsibly when running various tests.
• Must be able to collaborate with scientists professionally and work cohesively with others at all levels.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have the ability to document and record results clearly and accurately with minimal to no errors.
• Thorough understanding of laboratory safety procedures.
• Be able to use a variety of computer software programs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and efficient work area.
• Follow experimental procedures and objectives.
• Perform routine hands-on lab work including equipment handling, chemical handling, catalyst preparation, characterization and testing.
• Report daily lab results and progress results to the team.
• Generate and document experimental data and calculations.
• Follow procedures and propose changes to improve efficiency and data quality.
• Handle and safely dispose of materials.
• Repair, calibrate, and maintain tools and equipment.
• Collect data, document test results, and assist in preparing reports.
• Maintain files and documentation related to test equipment.
• Maintain laboratory inventory supplies.
