Job summary

ReCon Management Services, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform routine and non-routine analytical testing on products and samples at the site. You will work under supervision and follow safety protocols while contributing to cost-effective operations.

The role requires a HS diploma or GED with relevant training or education, plus several years of experience, and a valid driver’s license. Overtime and plant callouts may be required. Safety gear usage is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with additional specialized training, or college course work, and at least six (6) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline may be required or preferred depending on role.

Responsibilities

  • Promote an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
  • Perform routine and non-routine sample analyses.
  • Document, communicate, and archive analytical results.
  • Test quality control standards to ensure validity of sample results.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

  • Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the work place environment.
  • Candidate will be required to mentor other laboratory technicians when necessary.
  • Engage in frequent developmental dialog with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance.

Summary Of Description

The Technician will work under the supervision of an assigned specific discipline and based on experience the individual evaluates, selects, and applies standard applicable techniques. Could include discipline work of purchasing, expediting, NDT Inspection, project controls, surveying, laser scanning, schedulers, planner, construction inspectors, project coordinators, automation, controls, etc.

Duties
  • Assists assigned supervisor in various aspects of projects assigned.
  • Applying standard discipline techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with additional specialized training, or college course work, and at least six (6) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

License Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement
Specific Skills
  • Detailed working knowledge of Policies and Procedures related to project work.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Basic Function

As a member of the Laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing efficient and cost-effective routine and non-routine analytical and physical testing on products produced and/or samples generated at this site. Laboratory Technicians are also accountable for working safely, independently, and efficiently while always seeking to implement methods which reduce costs, improve quality, and reduce the potential for injury. You will be accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers, promoting a safe work environment, and carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

Minimum Education/Experience

High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of experience working as a Laboratory Technician; Or Associate’s degree in Chemical Laboratory Technology; Or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline.

Requirements
  • Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional plant callouts
  • Must be willing and able to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment) Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Must be able to complete tasks while wearing required personal protective equipment which may include protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Pass pre-employment testing including a physical, drug and alcohol screening, and background check
Other Skills
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse set of cross functional groups
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Must be able to perform job with minimal direction from supervision and identify opportunities to develop self
  • Proficient computer skills are required to effectively use requisite software applications

  • Experience with chromatography, physical property testing, and wet methods.
