They are currently seeking a Laboratory Associate – Microbiology to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on microbiology laboratory experience while working with a life sciences leader in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment.
Position Overview
The Laboratory Associate – Microbiology will support microbiological testing, laboratory studies, and experimental procedures while following established SOPs, protocols, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and aseptic techniques. This position involves working with a variety of microorganisms, potentially including pathogens and spore-forming organisms, and supporting Microbiologists with routine and non-routine laboratory activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological laboratory procedures using proper aseptic techniques and safe handling practices.
- Assist with the setup, scheduling, preparation, and execution of laboratory studies and experimental procedures.
- Produce accurate, traceable, and defensible laboratory results in accordance with GLP requirements.
- Work with and maintain various microorganisms, including pathogens and spore cultures.
- Assist Microbiologists with experiments, testing, and laboratory studies.
- May support studies involving Clostridium botulinum under established laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
- Perform microbial transfers using aseptic techniques.
- Conduct microbial identification and enumeration procedures.
- Prepare microbiological media, reagents, solutions, and dilutions accurately.
- Perform plate pouring, pipetting, and other routine microbiology laboratory techniques.
- Conduct microscopic observations and testing, including direct microscopic counts, Gram staining, and wet mounts.
- Operate laboratory instruments and equipment required for assigned projects.
- Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
- Identify and communicate equipment, laboratory, or facility issues and potential improvements to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain complete and accurate laboratory and experimental records.
- Follow applicable SOPs, protocols, GLP requirements, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and orderly laboratory environment.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with laboratory staff to meet project and business objectives.
- Perform additional laboratory duties and projects as assigned.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Hands-on laboratory or microbiology experience preferred.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique and proper microbiological handling procedures.
- Experience with microbiological techniques such as media preparation, pipetting, dilutions, plating, microbial transfers, and microscopy preferred.
- Ability to accurately follow SOPs, protocols, and written laboratory procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation and data integrity.
- Ability to safely work with microorganisms and biological materials in a controlled laboratory environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform routine and non-routine laboratory tasks with general supervision.
