Job summary

Rutgers University–New Brunswick seeks a Laboratory Technician for the Nakamura Lab to support research in evolutionary and developmental biology, genomics, and comparative anatomy. The role includes performing experiments with fish, managing lab operations, and assisting ongoing projects, with evening/weekend hours as needed.

Applicants will contribute to data collection and analysis, maintain accurate lab records, and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school or vocational education with relevant science coursework plus one year of research experience.
• Practical understanding and working knowledge of basic scientific techniques.
• Experience with DNA/RNA manipulation, gene expression staining, and animal genotyping.
• Effective communication and strong attention to detail in following research protocols.
• Willingness to learn new experiments and strong organizational skills.
• Participation in required occupational health and safety programs.
• Two years of driving experience and successful completion of Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory experiments and data collection for Nakamura Lab projects.
• Maintain and organize lab records and sample inventories.
• Support ongoing research in evolutionary and developmental biology.
