Job summary

Duke University’s Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician to join the research team led by Professor Nicole Rockey. You will contribute directly to scientific research while developing hands-on laboratory skills in a supportive learning environment.

No prior laboratory experience is required. Training and ongoing skill development will be provided to help you build technical expertise and confidence in a variety of laboratory methods focused on

Qualifications

• Basic science background normally required for entry into the lab.
• Willingness to learn and perform laboratory procedures.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Commitment to following lab procedures and safety requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in biological or environmental sciences, engineering, public health, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory experiments including cell culture and molecular analyses following protocols.
• Support laboratory operations by maintaining organized workspaces and stocking supplies.
• Maintain accurate experimental records in paper and electronic formats.
• Follow lab procedures and safety practices to ensure efficient daily operation.
• Collaborate with research team members on studies of environmental persistence and disease transmission.
