Prairie Farms Dairy is a farmer-owned dairy cooperative founded in 1938. We manufacture and distribute a full line of fluid milk and dairy products throughout the Midwest. Our products are available in grocery chains, mass merchandisers, club stores, convenience stores, dollar stores, drug stores, schools, food service outlets, and warehouse distribution centers. We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Quality Assurance Department at our Carlinville, Illinois facility. This position reports to the Corporate Lab Director.

Purpose

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for testing raw and processed fluid milk products and operating modern testing equipment. Candidates must communicate effectively and collaborate well with team members.

This is a part-time position with hours ranging between 6 am and 5 pm, including rotating Saturdays.

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Operate milk laboratory equipment, such as Foss FT1 component analyzer, pH meter, autoclave, analytical scales, incubators, 3M petrifilm, etc.
  2. Perform approved testing methods for rapid detection of antibiotics
  3. Conduct analytical testing for dairy product components
  4. Monitor weight control of finished products
  5. Calibrate laboratory equipment regularly
  6. Identify and troubleshoot technical and instrumental issues, proposing solutions
  7. Navigate industry-specific software programs
  8. Observe deviations from specifications and alert management promptly
  9. Demonstrate solid planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail while managing multiple projects with limited supervision
  10. Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and work policies
  11. Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in a Laboratory Science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Sciences) from an accredited institution
  2. Ability to obtain certifications for Raw Milk Testing Equipment and complete ongoing training
  3. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software
  4. Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, climb, kneel, lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs.
  5. Self-motivated with good time management and flexibility to handle additional tasks
  6. Organized, detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  7. Flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  8. Three-month probationary period
