Job description

As a Lab Technician on the In-House design team, you will be a valuable GM team member working on the latest technology used in GM’s next generation of vehicles. You will work closely with a team of electrical and mechanical engineers who are designing automotive modules and supporting their needs for data collection, troubleshooting, testing, and providing insights to influence design.

This position requires the following technical skills:

  • Ability to read schematic diagrams and cross-probe to related layout sections.
  • Proficiency with lab test equipment including oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, data loggers, multimeters, vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Troubleshooting electronic modules, testing interfaces such as input/output, voltage supplies, Ethernet, CAN, LIN, SPI, UART.
  • Expertise in high-pitched soldering (leaded and leadless BGA, QFN, LGA).
  • De-soldering skills for ICs, SIPs, BGA, QFN.
  • Experience with lab equipment like thermal chambers, vibration tables, RF testing, and automation programming.

This role also involves organizational skills such as:

  • Writing technical reports.
  • Organizing and prioritizing daily tasks.
  • Effective communication of work plans and results.
  • Managing lab resources and equipment maintenance.

Additional experience preferred includes:

  • Two-year technician or engineering degree; seven years of electronics technician experience.
  • Experience with automotive, military, or industrial modules.
