Job summary

GeoEngineers is seeking a Lab Technician to perform quality laboratory tests in line with ASTM standards and to assist with field work as needed. The role emphasizes accurate testing, documentation, and support for engineers and scientists on project deliverables.

You will conduct tests such as triaxial compression, permeability, and sieve analyses while maintaining equipment and records. A High School Diploma is required, with preference for an Associate’s degree and 1 year of related lab

Qualifications

  • 1 year of related experience, preferably within a certified soils laboratory.
  • Experience writing various laboratory analyses.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical information and instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic-to-advanced mathematical and statistical calculations.
  • Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests, including triaxial compression, permeability, consolidation, shear, moisture/density, moisture content, hydrometer, Atterberg limits, maximum density, sieve analysis, and corrosion.
  • Maintains laboratory and equipment cleanliness, safety, and efficiency including calibration and maintenance of equipment and related records.
  • Supports compliance with applicable standards by completing appropriate testing and documentation as needed.
  • Supports the availability, storage, and timely disposal of soil samples submitted to laboratory for review and testing.
  • Assists the laboratory manager with maintenance of lab procedures and documentation.
  • May support the QC/QA Manager with ongoing lab certification requirements if applicable to assigned location.

Description

The Lab Technician is responsible for completing quality, accurate laboratory tests in accordance with appropriate standards (such as ASTM specifications). This position is also responsible for assisting with field work and supporting engineers and scientists with other project-related deliverables as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs laboratory tests, including but not limited to: triaxial compression, permeability, consolidation, shear, moisture/density, moisture content, hydrometer, Atterberg limits, maximum density, sieve analysis, and corrosion.
  • Maintains laboratory and equipment cleanliness, safety, and efficiency including calibration and maintenance of equipment and related records.
  • Supports compliance with applicable standards by completing appropriate testing and documentation as needed.
  • Supports the availability, storage, and timely disposal of soil samples submitted to laboratory for review and testing. Assists with maintenance of the soil sample inventory control system.
  • Assists the laboratory manager with maintenance of lab procedures and documentation.
  • May support the QC/QA Manager with ongoing lab certification requirements if applicable to assigned location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or advanced training preferred.
  • 1 year of related experience, preferably within a certified soils laboratory.
  • Previous experience writing various laboratory analyses.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical information and instructions.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
  • Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., prolonged sitting and regular walking, bending, standing and reaching.
  • Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged view of a monitor/screen.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Spokane, WA, is $19.71- $29.32 per hour. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers’ salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
