Until is a moonshot company building a pause button for biology. We’re assembling an interdisciplinary team to develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectants, and vitrification hardware for reversible organ cryopreservation.

The Lab Technician role supports recombinant protein production within the Molecular Development team. You will express and purify proteins in bacterial and yeast systems, perform quality-control analyses, and maintain accurate sample and batch records, with on-site training for

• Assess protein concentration, yield, and purity using SDS-PAGE and concentration assays.
• Prepare and replenish culture media, buffers, stock solutions, and reagents with accurate weighing and pH adjustment.
• After training, handle and maintain mammalian cells, including thawing, media changes, passaging and counting.

Until is a moonshot company building a “pause button” for biology. Our near-term focus is organ-scale reversible cryopreservation: preserving donated organs at subzero temperatures without ice formation, then rewarming them uniformly for transplant. By solving this grand challenge, we’re laying the foundation for whole-body reversible cryopreservation, giving patients a bridge to future cures.

To achieve our goal, we are assembling an interdisciplinary team to develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, and vitrification and rewarming hardware.

We envision a future where no transplantable organ is lost to logistics, and no terminal diagnosis is final because patients can safely wait for future medicine to arrive.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support recombinant protein production and media, buffer, and solution preparation within the Molecular Development team. The role includes expressing and purifying proteins using bacterial and yeast systems, performing routine protein quality-control analyses, and maintaining accurate sample and batch records.

The technician will also receive training in routine mammalian cell handling and maintenance. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys hands‑on laboratory work, follows protocols carefully, and takes pride in consistent, reproducible results.

Work Schedule

This is an on-site role. The regular schedule includes at least two later-start, later-finish workdays per week to support time-sensitive laboratory workflows. These are shifted workdays rather than routinely extended days, coordinated in advance with the team.

Key Responsibilites:

• Express recombinant proteins in E. coli and yeast using established protocols, including culture preparation, growth, induction, and harvesting.
• Purify proteins using affinity chromatography, concentration, and buffer exchange.
• Assess protein concentration, yield, and purity using SDS-PAGE and protein concentration assays.
• Prepare and replenish culture media, buffers, stock solutions, and experimental reagents, including accurate weighing, dilution, pH adjustment, and sterilization as appropriate.
• After training, handle and maintain mammalian cells, including thawing, media changes, passaging, cell counting, viability assessment, and cryopreservation.
• Monitor cell morphology, confluency, and culture health; follow aseptic practices and promptly report contamination or unexpected results.
• Label, store, and track proteins, reagents, and cell stocks, maintaining clear records of preparation, production, quality control, and cell maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
• At least two years of hands‑on laboratory experience, including relevant academic research, internships, or industry experience.
• Hands‑on experience with molecular biology and protein purification.
• Familiarity with SDS-PAGE, protein concentration assays, accurate pipetting, solution preparation, and routine laboratory calculations.
• Familiarity with aseptic technique, laboratory safety, and contamination‑control practices.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and documentation skills, with the ability to follow protocols, coordinate multiple tasks, and communicate deviations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience expressing recombinant proteins in both E. coli and yeast.
• Experience with chromatography systems.
• Experience with larger‑scale protein production and batch control.
• Experience with routine mammalian cell handling and maintenance.
• Candidates with strong protein-production experience who are interested in learning these techniques are encouraged to apply.
