Job description

Mothership's client, a leading pharmaceutical company, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support their team in Newark, DE. This position will provide essential assistance to department operations. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks to maintain laboratory efficiency, ensure cleanliness, and prepare materials for laboratory use. This is a hands-on position requiring attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

This is an onsite W2 contract position with a duration of 6 months, and the possibility of extension.

Location: Newark, DE

Pay: $18-20 per hour

Schedule:

  • Days: M-F
  • Hours: Flexible (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, or 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, or 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
  • Training Period: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (for the first 23 weeks)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operation of a microbiological testing laboratory.
  • Receive, unpack, and organize customer samples for laboratory processing.
  • Prepare customer returns for processing and assist with laboratory inventory.
  • Under supervision, discard customer samples and operate laboratory equipment, including a laser cutter.
  • Perform routine cleaning of laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Restock consumables and materials required for sample processing.
  • Properly dispose of microbial cultures, chemicals, recyclables, sharps, and glass.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, SOPs, and MSDS/SDS sheets.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and assist with ad hoc tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or Associate degree in Microbiology or related discipline required.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of related experience in a laboratory setting.
  • No certification or licensure required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands for handling tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with team members.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
  • General office and laboratory working conditions.
  • The noise level is typically quiet.
  • Protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, gloves, closed-toe shoes) are required when working in the laboratory area.
