Job description

IMC is seeking a hands-on Electronics Lab Technician to support the development, testing, deployment, and operation of proprietary hardware within our Global Hardware team.

This role sits at the center of our custom ASIC development lifecycle. You’ll help bring new hardware from manufacturing into production by validating circuit boards, supporting hardware bring‑up, coordinating inventory and logistics, and maintaining the lab infrastructure used to test next‑generation trading systems.

Our hardware organization operates on a regular ASIC release cadence, creating a dynamic environment that combines hardware testing, manufacturing support, deployment operations, and continuous process improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with electronics, solving practical problems, and contributing to cutting‑edge technology used in live trading systems.

What You’ll Do
Testing & Hardware Operations
  • Commission, inspect, and document circuit boards and hardware
  • Execute board‑ and chip‑level validation testing using established procedures
  • Operate test fixtures and associated software to verify hardware functionality
  • Execute validation and bring‑up testing for newly manufactured hardware
  • Install, configure, and maintain test equipment
  • Troubleshoot test failures and support root‑cause investigations
  • Perform basic hardware troubleshooting and escalte issues appropriately
  • Assist with hardware rework and modifications when necessary
  • Support hardware release cycles and deployment readiness activities
Manufacturing & Deployment Support
  • Coordinate with manufacturing partners and internal engineering teams during hardware production cycles
  • Track hardware, components, and assemblies throughout the testing and deployment process
  • Support preparation, packaging, and shipment of hardware to production datacenters
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of circuit boards, components, and equipment
  • Issue purchase orders for parts, materials, and lab supplies
Lab & Inventory Management
  • Manage inventory of circuit boards, electrical and mechanical components, and test hardware
  • Maintain lab organization and workflow standards across shared engineering spaces
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers and supporting equipment
  • Manage mechanical component and fastener inventory
  • Maintain documentation related to testing, inventory, and operational procedures
Mechanical Assembly
  • Perform assembly, modification, and rework following drawings and work instructions
  • Use basic hand and shop tools safely and competently
  • Support integration of hardware into chassis, enclosures, and larger systems
Collaboration
  • Partner with Hardware Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Center, Procurement, and Facilities teams
  • Support the deployment and ongoing operation of hardware used throughout IMC’s trading infrastructure
What You Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in a lab, testing, manufacturing, electronics, or hardware support environment
  • Familiarity with electronics, electronic components, and basic electrical concepts
  • Experience handling electronic hardware and test equipment
  • Experience using multimeters for basic measurements and diagnostics
  • Ability to follow mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and test procedures
  • Safe, competent use of hand tools and shop equipment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues using a structured and methodical approach
  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to execute tasks with incomplete or high‑level procedures
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have
  • Hardware testing, validation, or board bring‑up experience
  • Experience using oscilloscopes or similar electronics lab equipment
  • Inventory management, shipping, and receiving experience
  • Experience supporting low‑volume manufacturing or custom hardware development
  • Basic electrical rework capability
  • Soldering experience
  • Experience operating and maintaining 3D printers
  • Experience working in shared, multi‑disciplinary engineering lab environments
  • Strong documentation and process‑management habits
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
  • Maintains exceptional attention to detail when working with hardware and testing procedures
  • Enjoys hands‑on technical work and practical problem‑solving
  • Balances urgency with precision during critical hardware release cycles
  • Takes ownership of operational processes and follows through on details
  • Learns new tools, systems, and technologies quickly
  • Documents work clearly and consistently
  • Works effectively with engineering, operations, and infrastructure teams
