Shift: 7:00am - 7:30pm, rotating weekends & holidays

Emory Medical Laboratory aims to transform health and healing through high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative laboratory services that improve patient outcomes. We are seeking a Lab Tech Specialist I, a certified medical laboratory scientist with expertise in Microbiology. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing advanced specialized laboratory procedures and ensuring data accuracy
  • Implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Teaching procedures and troubleshooting methodologies and instrumentation
  • Managing supplies and equipment for testing
  • Educating students and residents in laboratory procedures
  • Developing training and educational programs
  • Updating laboratory protocols
  • Conducting research and contributing to scientific publications
  • Performing routine and developmental procedures
  • Creating protocols for specialized tests
  • Performing related duties as required

Skills Needed:

  • Extensive LIS validation and troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to manage administrative and patient care duties simultaneously
  • Knowledge of safety protocols per CAP, OSHA, and other agencies
  • Leadership in safety and compliance initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical lab science, or related sciences
  • Equivalent degrees with appropriate coursework or certifications accepted
  • Certification in specific laboratory specialties may be required
  • At least two years of relevant laboratory experience; three preferred

Physical Requirements (Medium): Ability to lift 20-50 lbs occasionally, 11-25 lbs frequently, and 1-10 lbs constantly. Tasks include standing, walking, sitting, close eye work, and environmental exposures such as blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and radiation. Shift work and travel may be required. Use of PPE is mandatory depending on tasks and environment.
