Job summary

McCormick & Company, Incorporated in Geneva, IL is seeking a Lab Tech to support flavor science for beverage products. You will work closely with Flavor Creations, Analytical Sciences, Regulatory, Product Safety and Quality, and Sales to apply science to customer products.

The role focuses on benchtop formulation, sample preparation, and sensory evaluation, with opportunities for growth within a global leader in herbs, spices, seasonings, and condiments.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Sciences or equivalent training/experience in the food industry (up to 4 years).
  • Experience in a Food manufacturing environment or lab is a plus; knowledge of food safety.
  • Solid math skills; ability to work accurately with formulas and decimals.
  • Strong PC skills; experience in Windows, managing files and data.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities; able to take direction from multiple groups.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize across multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; troubleshooting mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Product Developers & Flavor Chemists with lab tasks/duties.
  • Conduct benchtop application/health/performance nutrition formulas.
  • Set up and screen flavors for oral evaluation.
  • Prepare and set up raw materials, finished products, and retention samples.
  • Manage lab inventory of materials, bases, and supplies.
  • Maintain sanitation and lab organization.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; communicate across departments.
  • Prepare samples for daily sensory panel analysis and retention samples.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role focuses on the application science of flavoring customer products in the Beverage segments. This person will work closely with Flavor Creations, Analytical Sciences, Regulatory, Product Safety and Quality, and Sales departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Product Developers & Flavor Chemists with lab tasks / duties.
  • Conducting basic benchtop application / health/ performance nutrition formulas.
  • Setting up and screening flavors for oral evaluation.
  • Responsible for the preparation / set-up of raw materials, finished products and retention samples.
  • Manage lab inventory of raw materials, product bases, & supplies needed to support daily tasks.
  • Maintain sanitation and lab organization.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team.
  • Setting up samples for daily sensory panel analysis of finished products and retention samples.
  • Effectively communicate with related departments on projects and products as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum level of education required: Associate Degree in Sciences (biology, chemistry, food science, etc.) or equivalent training or experience in the food industry (up to 4 years of experience)
  • Experience in a Food manufacturing environment or lab and knowledge of food safety is a plus.
  • Solid math skills including the ability to work accurately with formulas and decimals.
  • Strong PC skills required. Experience operating in a Windows environment, managing files and handling data.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to be self-directed and motivated. Manage time and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to take instruction / direction from multiple groups
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while keeping the ability to redirect efforts based on shifting demands.
  • Experience following principles and making informed decision.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to present information to peers in a logical manner.
  • Must have strong teamwork capabilities, flexibility to adjust to customer demands.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast paced environment with changing practices.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds continuously, 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime as directed by manager.
  • Ability to work onsite and to attend all shifts as scheduled.

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Dividend Program.
