Job summary

Northside Hospital is expanding its team and seeks a dedicated Phlebotomist to manage laboratory data collection, perform specimen collection, and ensure accurate handling of patient information. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant certification, demonstrating strong communication and teamwork skills. Candidates should be prepared to work overnight shifts on a rotating weekend basis, providing essential support in an award-winning healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • Sufficient feeling in fingers and visual acuity for locating blood vessels.

Responsibilities

Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, canceled, and charged to all inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts. Perform specimen collection procedures for inpatients and outpatients. Conduct non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution from patients.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, License or Certification Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, PLUS;
  • a. Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program, OR
  • b. At least a two (2) year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty, OR
  • c. Two (2) years’ experience in specimen collection, processing, and requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare system, OR
  • d. Clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab as part of educational rotations, OR
  • e. Valid, verifiable Phlebotomy Certification.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding and applying accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
  • Sufficient feeling in fingers and visual acuity to locate blood vessels.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Color vision acuity is required; applicants must pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology.
  • Experience with computer systems and design.
  • Public relations skills and service delivery training.
Work Hours:

10:30 PM - 7:00 AM
