Position: Lab Tech Assistant – Fairfield Hospital

Job Summary:

The Lab Tech Assistant is responsible for laboratory duties including preparing specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders, verifying specimen acceptability, and performing established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures. The role also involves performing phlebotomy and specimen collection according to established procedures to ensure proper processing. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory, stocking supplies, conducting waived testing, and slide preparation.

Essential Functions:

  1. Providing excellent customer service by greeting patients and community members respectfully.
  2. Collecting blood specimens from patients, following established venipuncture procedures, and transporting specimens to the testing laboratory to ensure specimen integrity.
  3. Supporting technologists by assisting with instrument loading and maintenance, reagent preparation, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing blood products.
  4. Recognizing instrument and equipment malfunctions and informing relevant personnel of issues and resolutions.
  5. Performing clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, and answering phones as needed.
  6. Troubleshooting and resolving problems promptly.
  7. Performing other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Degree or GED (required)
  • Associates degree in Biology or Chemistry (preferred)

Experience:

  • Laboratory experience preferred but not required
  • Keyboarding or data entry experience preferred but not required

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to deliver quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional interaction with staff and patients
  • Willingness to travel to off-site locations
