The role involves handling laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure proper ordering, cancellation, and charging of laboratory tests for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts. It also includes performing specimen collection procedures for both inpatients and outpatients, as well as non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / License or Certification Required

• High school diploma or equivalent, PLUS;
• Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program, OR,
• At least a two (2) year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related field, OR
• Two (2) years’ experience in specimen collection, processing, and requisitioning within a clinical laboratory or healthcare system, OR
• Clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab as part of educational rotations, OR
• Valid, verifiable Phlebotomy Certification.

Additional abilities include working independently and as part of a team, understanding and applying procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing, and effective communication skills. The candidate must have sufficient finger dexterity and visual ability to locate blood vessels, and must pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology.
• Experience with computer systems and design.
• Public relations skills and service delivery training.
