Job Description

The Lab Support Technician, First Shift, in the Outreach Operations Department at UC Health, is responsible for performing activities within the Patient Service Centers of the Outreach Laboratory Service. This includes patient registration in Horizon, blood and specimen collection, pre-analytic processing, client profile setup and maintenance, client services, problem-solving, and other support functions to ensure the center is prepared to receive and care for patients daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of a formal phlebotomy program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand written information; proficiency with technology and computer systems such as Centricity, LastWord, Horizon, Epic.
• Phlebotomy certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive orders, review patient demographics and insurance information.
• Complete registration and order entry into Horizon.
• Perform ABN checks for Medicare patients, explain options, and assist with completion.
• Answer calls courteously, identify oneself, and handle requests efficiently.
• Maintain documentation, review requisitions, resolve issues, and file appropriately.
• Participate in orientation of new staff, prepare the service center for daily activities, and ensure proper billing and workflow coordination.
• Provide excellent customer service, resolve problems, and troubleshoot as needed.
• Develop and update physician/office profiles, investigate test order ambiguities, perform venipunctures, and conduct point-of-care testing.
• Follow safety policies, complete logs, and ensure specimen integrity.
