Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Lab Support Technician I to join the provider care team, delivering accurate laboratory support including specimen processing, data entry and scheduling coordination in collaboration with clinical staff.

You will interact with internal and external customers, uphold HIPAA confidentiality, and participate in the safe collection of specimens and sample transport per lab policies. A probationary period applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred coursework in Chemistry, Biology or other sciences.
• Experience with HIPAA confidentiality and patient data handling is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
