Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Lab Support Technician in Indianapolis, IN to perform various technical and clerical functions under supervision, including order entry, testing, and reporting. The role follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM with rotational weekends. Lab Support Technician – Indianapolis, IN

Position: Monday to Friday, 02:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with rotational weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: $17.20+ per hour. Employee may be eligible for shift differential: 10% for some or all hours on second shift; 15% for some or all hours on third shift. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.

Job Summary

The Support Technician performs various technical and clerical functions under supervision. Duties may include order entry, processing, testing (including Point of Care patient testing), and reporting of waived and moderately complex kit test results as allowed by organizational and CLIA guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • General
    • Complies with OSHA, health and safety requirements.
    • Complies with MACL policies and procedures including HR & Corporate Compliance/Integrity.
    • Contributes to a positive work environment by functioning as a team member.
    • Organizes, plans, and performs multiple tasks to accomplish corporate objectives.
    • Cooperates in completion of additional duties as assigned.
    • Utilizes and maintains equipment and supplies to maximize efficiency and cost control.
    • Shows responsibility to the job and co-workers by exhibiting good attendance and punctuality.
    • Provides customer assistance with a positive, service-oriented attitude, including proper telephone etiquette.
    • Demonstrates flexibility as required to meet customer and organizational needs.
    • Participates actively in continuing education to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
    • Maintains ethical standards such as confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Completes required training and competency evaluations before initiating duties.
    • Demonstrates competency on all checklist tasks within six months.
  • Processing
    • Adheres to collection and processing requirements to prevent loss or compromise of specimens.
    • Utilizes all tools (including computer functions) to ensure appropriate specimen requirements and knowledge of interferences.
    • Performs accurate and complete labeling.
    • Follows proper processing techniques (e.g., pour off, culture set up).
    • Prepares and stores specimens appropriately.
    • Performs and completes all documentation to facilitate processing, tracking, and problem-solving.
    • Utilizes computer functions appropriately, including manual backup systems.
    • Evaluates specimen integrity for testing ordered.
    • Prioritizes workload appropriately.
  • Technical
    • Performs technical work under direct supervision of a qualified individual.
    • Performs technical duties accurately as assigned.
    • Performs general cleaning, daily maintenance, supplies and inventory of technical areas as assigned.
    • Performs clerical functions: reports, pending logs, charging, credit reports, patient charts, faxing, filing, and registration.
    • Performs and documents non-testing preventative maintenance as trained, assigned, and competency documented.
    • Reports and documents testing and non-testing QC results as trained, assigned, and competency documented.
    • Performs additional technical tasks as assigned (e.g., processing send-out tests, frozen section room duties, supply/reagent management).
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of all computer systems within the department.
    • Ensures all daily and periodic maintenance and non-testing QC is performed, as assigned.
    • Resolves department issues, as assigned.
    • Assists with training of new associates, as assigned.
    • Loads all instrumentation as trained, assigned, and competency documented.
    • Cross-trains in other technical areas or departments, maintaining competency in all assigned tasks.
    • Assists with inventory management and performs QC of bedside devices for new lot/new shipments.
  • Testing
    • Performs testing work under direct supervision of a qualified individual.
    • Performs and documents preventative maintenance as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Performs waived testing & moderate complex testing as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Performs and documents QC as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Reports and documents patient and QC results of waived testing and moderately complex kit testing as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Operates instrumentation as trained and assigned and competency documented, including performance of maintenance, QC and patient testing.
    • Prepares and stains Hematology slides as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Prepares and stains gram stain slides as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Issues blood components for transfusion as trained, assigned and competency documented.
    • Performs biannual testing for correlation or linearity studies of bedside devices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, trained, and competency documented.
