Job summary

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory (OAL) is one of the world’s largest World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited sports drug-testing facility and one of the leading research institutions in the field of athletic doping. Founded in 1982 by a grant from the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, the UCLA facility was the first U.S. laboratory accredited by the International Olympic Committee.

We are seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead the team responsible for sample receiving and accessioning operations. Key duties include:

• Supervise and provide leadership to staff responsible for specimen receipt, accessioning, labeling verification, aliquoting, storage, chain-of-custody documentation, and transfer of samples to testing areas. – Preproduction of testing
• Coordinate daily workflow activities to ensure timely and accurate sample intake operations.
• Oversee specimen documentation, chain-of-custody processes, sample reconciliation activities, and resolution of operational issues.
• Monitor inventory levels and readiness of receiving supplies, shipping materials, storage areas, and related equipment.
• Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality standards, laboratory safety requirements, and documentation retention policies.
• Identify workflow challenges and implement practical process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
• Support the implementation of new procedures, technologies, and systems, including training staff on updated workflows and best practices.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused work environment that promotes continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Salary Range: $73,000.00/year - $149,600.00/year

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Laboratory Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. 5 years of relevant research lab experience experience)
• Minimum 3 years of experience in laboratory operations, specimen receiving, accessioning, sample handling, or a comparable laboratory support environment.
• Knowledge of specimen documentation practices, chain-of-custody requirements, SOPs, quality assurance/quality control principles, and laboratory safety standards.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, and effectively manage competing deadlines in a complex environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
• Previous experience serving as a lead, supervisor, or manager in a laboratory or operational environment – preferred
