Schedule Details: Holidays - No More Than Every Third Holiday, Monday through Friday, Weekends - Every Third Weekend

Scheduled Hours: 8:00am to 4:30pm

Job Profile Summary

Reporting to the Laboratory Director, the Lab Supervisor is responsible for specimen flow, processing, and testing. The supervisor will perform as a technologist, assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, and perform or designate quality control testing. This role is the "go-to" person for problem resolution and consultation. No supervision is required.

Major Responsibilities
  • Technical/Administrative:
    • Write, review, and revise policies and procedures.
    • Ensure testing accuracy and timely turnaround.
    • Manage inventory and purchasing.
    • Monitor work quality and adherence to standards.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot instruments.
    • Train staff and assess competency.
    • Respond to technical inquiries.
    • Develop departmental goals.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate policies and ensure compliance.
    • Attend leadership and staff meetings.
    • Report problems to the Laboratory Supervisor.
    • Assist with personnel functions such as hiring, orientation, and staff development.
  • QC/QI:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Manage quality assurance programs.
    • Review QC data and prepare reports.
    • Monitor and improve quality metrics.
    • Participate in CAP surveys and troubleshooting.
    • Ensure safety regulations are followed.
  • Documentation:
    • Complete staff competency assessments annually.
    • Document errors, complaints, and incidents.
    • Respond to inspection deficiencies.
  • Special Assignments:
    • Improve customer support and departmental systems.
    • Develop and monitor LEAN initiatives.
    • Evaluate new instrumentation and procedures.
    • Ensure staffing and evaluate technical staff in microbiology.
License/Certification/Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree; Registered MT (MLS) (ASCP) or eligible.

Experience/Skills

Required: 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
