Job summary

Sapphire Americas, a CRH company, is seeking a Lab Supervisor to oversee daily lab activities and guide staff at the plant. The role involves direct supervision of laboratory personnel, ensuring safety, quality control, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

You will conduct routine analyses, review test results, supervise staff performance, and support production with data-driven insights to maintain product quality and process efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing lab environment.
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions and signs.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Commitment to quality and strong analytic abilities.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, physics, and mathematics theories and procedures.
  • Proficient with instrumentation analysis and wet chemical analysis.
  • Ability to use a computer to store data and generate reports.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information and make sound judgments.
  • Must be able to travel domestically up to 25%.
  • Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals daily.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Perform regular and special chemical analyses on samples.
  • Review results and adjust quality to meet standards and production objectives.
  • Supervise and evaluate laboratory personnel performance and conduct disciplinary actions.
  • Assign responsibilities to plant laboratory staff and communicate tasks.
  • Assist in purchasing lab equipment and supplies for testing.
  • Provide feedback on production processes to ensure product characteristics.
  • Inspect plant operations for quality fluctuations or unusual conditions.
  • Formulate calculations and conduct computations for lab controls.
  • Prepare chemical solutions for analyses.
  • Retain and update lab data and produce reports for management.
  • Prepare samples for wastewater regulatory compliance testing.
  • Ensure QC/QA measures with proper archival of tests.
  • Order supplies for laboratory activities.
  • Assign and evaluate work of lab technicians with support from QC Manager.
  • Prepare first-aid reports and ensure safety standards compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Summary

The Lab Supervisor provides daily guidance to lab personnel in direct support of their duties and responsibilities. The position exercises direct supervision over all laboratory personnel at the plant. The Lab Supervisor must remain available to assist with lab and processing problems. What You’ll Be Contributing
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Performs regular and special chemical analysis on samples.
  • Reviews results of chemical and physical tests performed and takes necessary actions to adjust the quality to meet established standards and plant quality and production objectives.
  • Supervises and evaluates the job performance of laboratory personnel, including disciplinary action.
  • Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities to plant laboratory employees.
  • Assists in purchasing various lab equipment and supplies for chemical testing.
  • Provides constant feedback on the production process to ensure desired product characteristics.
  • Conducts regular inspections of plant operations to determine probable causes of product quality fluctuations or to detect unusual conditions.
  • Formulates mixed calculations or performs special computations for laboratory control measures.
  • Makes chemical solutions for use in chemical analysis.
  • Retains and updates laboratory research data and documentation on the lab computer. Prepares reports, graphs, and charts as requested by plant management.
  • Prepares and sends samples for compliance with wastewater treatment regulatory guidelines. Performs various tests on similar samples at the plant.
  • Ensures that QC and QA measures are being implemented on all analytical testing along with maintaining written or electronic archival of the same.
  • Orders supplies needed for laboratory activities.
  • Assigns and evaluates the work of all lab technicians with support from the Quality Control Manager.
  • Prepares first-aid reports, orders first-aid supplies, and ensures safety standards compliance.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need
  • Minimum 4 year - Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing lab environment
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to demonstrates a high commitment to quality
  • Knowledge of theories, procedures and guidelines pertaining to the fields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
  • Proficient with instrumentation analysis and wet chemical analysis.
  • Ability to use a computer to store data and generate reports.
  • Ability to be exposed to confidential information which may have a competitive or patentable value to the company or its customers.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly
  • Ability to be exposed to toxic and corrosive chemicals on a daily basis.
  • Domestic Travel up to 25%
