Job summary

Ash Grove Cement Company is hiring a Quality Control Tech at our Branford/Sapphire plant. You will perform laboratory tests to assure product quality, evaluating raw materials and fuels.

You will follow safety procedures, maintain equipment, and collaborate with production and quality departments to resolve issues. Ideal candidates have at least a year of cement lab experience, strong Excel skills, and the ability to read and follow technical directions in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of cement lab experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and lab data handling.
• Ability to read and follow safety and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests to ensure product quality per ASTM/AASHTO.
• Conduct chemical and physical tests on raw materials and fuels.
• Maintain safety and environmental policy compliance.
• Communicate test results to production and quality teams.
• Notify Site Manager of out-of-spec samples or issues.
• Maintain laboratory area, equipment, and inventory.
• Prepare samples for testing and document analyses.
• Assist in emergencies and support plant operations as needed.

What You'll Be Contributing

The Quality Control Technician, under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, works toward assuring the quality of products made at the plant. This position conducts laboratory tests to ensure products meet specifications (i.e., ASTM, AASHTO). To determine their quality, perform chemical and/or physical tests on raw materials, and fuels. Complies with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures. All employees at the Branford/Sapphire plant are responsible for working safely. Employees are fully expected to engage in our See Stop Do culture, following all safety procedures, proactively stopping the job, and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards, or concerns.

• Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
• Understands, evaluates, and monitors hazards in the laboratory or the plant.
• Performs regularly scheduled sampling and analyses as established by the laboratory.
• Monitors and changes process/quality parameters
• Notifies the Site Manager of any out-of-specification samples or problems.
• Maintains a high level of communication between the production and quality departments.
• Assists the production department in emergencies, as needed.
• Maintains a clean work area and assists in other housekeeping responsibilities.
• Prepares samples as needed for chemical and physical testing.
• Operates, cross-checks, and performs minor repairs to laboratory equipment.
• Maintains laboratory inventory of chemical solutions.
• Maintains logs and quality analysis reports as specified.
• Additional duties as assigned by manager

To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need

• High school graduation or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience performing relevant tests in a cement laboratory environment preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
• Knowledge of chemical testing, including wet chemical analysis, and physical testing procedures.
• Ability to develop and follow comprehensive technical directions.
• Ability to operate all laboratory equipment, including balances, muffle furnace, physical testing equipment, and laboratory computer.
• Skills needed include mathematical, analytical, organization, and communication skills, proper time management, and handling working under pressure

What To Expect In a Cement Environment

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
