Job summary

Abrazo West Campus is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily operations within the laboratory, supervise staff, and ensure quality and regulatory compliance across core lab, blood bank, and microbiology sections.

Leader will drive performance, manage budgetary considerations, and maintain accreditation standards while coordinating with department leadership to implement new procedures and improve workflow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by CLIA regulations.
• Experience: 5 years as Medical Technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care facility.
• Licensure/ Certifications: Registered with ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent; state licensure as required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises lab assistants and staff; assists in hiring decisions; performance management and disciplinary recommendations.
• Develops and delivers laboratory competency training and assessment programs for staff.
• Co-Responsible for accreditation (CAP, TCJ, AABB or other) and maintains proficiency testing documentation.
• Performs laboratory testing, instrument maintenance, and identifies quality issues and failures.
• Ensures SLAs through operational efficiencies and compliant policies/procedures.
• Evaluates new procedures, equipment, and products for lab use.

Advanced responsibilities include, but are not limited to, equipment validation and implementation; employee training and competency assessment; regulatory compliance. Co-Responsible for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other accreditation together with the rest of the leadership team. Demonstrates subject matter expertise in core laboratory, blood bank, microbiology or other specialty department.

Responsibilities

• Supports supervision of Lab assistants, assists in the selection of personnel for hire; performance management; and make recommendations on discipline and termination as well as staff evaluation and performance
• Develops and delivers laboratory competency training and assessment programs for staff;
• Co-Responsible for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other accreditation; Maintains and manages proficiency testing and maintains documentation for accreditation;
• Responsible for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other accreditation;
• Performs Laboratory testing, operational duties, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrument and equipment. Identifies quality and failures as they occur;
• Ensures service level agreements are met through implementation of operational efficiencies in work area;
• Assist department leadership in developing and maintaining policies and procedures within the department to maintain compliance;
• Evaluates new procedures, equipment and products for use in the lab;
• Develops workflow process to meet lab productivity;
• Ensures that reports of test results include pertinent information and critical results are reported timely;
• Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/ or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491). Meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor.
  • Experience: 5 years experience as Medical Technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care facility.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent). Licensure as required by State law.
• Preferred Requirements
  • Experience: 5 years laboratory supervisory experience
