Job summary

Dallas College seeks a Lab Specialist to support multiple academic Schools. You will maintain materials, supplies and equipment, provide technical support for courses, and ensure safe, efficient lab operations in a dynamic campus environment.

You will report to the Lab Manager, collaborate with faculty, and help coordinate learning labs, safety training, and inventory control. On-site roles may transition to hybrid after six months based on policy.

Position Summary

Dallas College seeks a dynamic individual to play an importantrole in the operation of the one of the seven new Dallas Collegeacademic Schools (the Schools). The Lab Specialist will servewithin one of the Dallas College academic Schools. Dallas Collegeis establishing the Schools with a new, ambitious academicframework to ensure the Schools align with the North Texas region’sworkforce and industry needs to ensure graduates’ success in theircareers.

The Lab Specialist will report to the Lab Manager. The LabSpecialist is responsible for maintaining materials, supplies,equipment, and information systems while providing technicalsupport for courses and programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge about laboratory operations, laboratory informationsystems (software and hardware), and laboratory equipment in one ormore discipline areas within the School.
• Advanced ability to use computer technology to access data,maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others.
• Must have strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task,detail-oriented approach to work, strong decision-making skills,good follow-up, ability to complete tasks.
• Utilizes excellent interpersonal, listening, oral and writtencommunication skills in order to communicate effectively withinternal and external stakeholders and constituents in the DallasCollege community network.
• Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customerservice.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously withindividuals internal/external to Dallas College.
• Must be able to comply with district policies/procedures as wellas applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree plus one (1) year of related work experienceand/or experience in a teaching environment. In lieu of associatedegree, two (2) years of related work experience may besubstituted.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily operations and maintenance oflaboratories, specialized classrooms, learning laboratories, toolrooms and equipment in support of courses and programs.
• Promote and support safety through laboratory safe practices andprovide training for students on safety procedures and hazardousmaterials handling.
• Maintains all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) informationforall chemicals and materials as required.
• Responsible for performing periodic inventory and maintainingaccurate inventory for equipment, tools, materials andsupplies.
• Receives, stores, and issues tools, supplies or equipmentassociated with courses or programs.
• Maintains log of tools, materials and equipment distributed andreturned.
• Responsible for security of assigned inventory.
• Responsible for maintaining tools, equipment, and informationsystems in good working condition and ensuring that repairs arescheduled and completed in a timely manner; perform minor repairsand calibrations as needed.
• Responsible for scheduling preventative maintenance of equipmentand recommend replacement or new equipment acquisitions.
• Schedule repairs and prepares and tracks purchaserequisitions.
• Serve as primary point of contact for vendors for quotes andpurchases.
• For learning labs, partner with faculty to coordinateappropriate learning lab support services including studentorientation and training.
• Responsible for troubleshooting lab hardware/softwareissues.
• Monitor students in the computer lab during open labperiods.
• Assist in the monitoring of lab activities to ensure a safe andclean learning environment.
• Serves as a resource to students, staff and faculty in area ofspecialization.
• Monitor and control budget expenditures within allocation.
• Hire, supervise, and evaluate lab assistants and assignedstaff.
• Determines work schedules and assignments in collaboration withfaculty.
• Keeps up to date on the professional and technical aspects onthe job.
• Utilizes excellent communication skills when interacting withinternal/external stakeholders and constituents within the DallasCollege community network.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Developmenttraining hours per academic year.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
