Position Summary:

The laboratory specialist position will be part of a dynamic and collaborative research team conducting NIH-sponsored basic research related to substance use disorders. The position requires the ability to accurately record, update, and maintain daily experimental data. The role involves managing multiple research studies with a low error rate, performing surgical procedures, and conducting behavioral pharmacology studies in rats. The specialist must maintain accurate records for regulatory agencies, prepare sterile solutions, administer test compounds, and monitor rodent health and welfare.

Core Responsibilities:
  1. Perform behavioral pharmacology experiments as instructed by Dr. Banks and senior scientists, including pre- and post-experiment duties and equipment maintenance.
  2. Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness, including cleaning equipment, preparing it for repair, removing trash, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  3. Manage laboratory supplies, including ordering to ensure adequate inventory for ongoing research.
  4. Handle regulatory documentation and interface with regulatory agencies during inspections.
