Job description

The Cliffe Lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work on projects investigating Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infection in neurons. Research activities will include but not be limited to:

  • Propagating and titrating virus stocks

  • Routine tissue culture

  • General molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid isolation, RT-PCR, RNAseq), microscopy, and animal work

The lab specialist will also have tasks related to laboratory maintenance. This includes training, maintaining mouse colonies, ordering supplies, preparing stock solutions, organizing and maintaining virus stocks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: 2 years of experience. 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Physical Demands

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work requiring finer finger manipulation.
