Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to support Laboratory Services with phlebotomy and related sample processing tasks. The role involves handling patient specimens, registration practices, and ensuring timely testing within established guidelines.

The candidate will perform essential functions, contribute to quality control, and may cover various shifts to guarantee patient care. Texas driver’s license and phlebotomy experience are required or preferred as noted.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years related experience.
• Valid State of Texas Driver's License.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy course or experience with Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Performs the essential duties and competencies in all assignments necessary for phlebotomy or other clinical related duties.
• Performs computer functions necessary for patient registration, blood collection, and specimen management.
• Determines acceptability of patient samples.
• Prepares, stores, and transfers samples for testing.
• Performs quality control procedures on equipment.
• Assists in maintaining records of inventory, maintenance, and daily quality control.
