Job summary

LabCorp is seeking a Lead Clinical Laboratory Professional to join our team at UAB St. Vincent's East, Birmingham, AL. The role supports Hematology/Coagulation in the Core Lab and leads daily operations on the 2nd shift.

You will mentor staff, ensure testing accuracy, adherence to SOPs, and timely reporting of results to support quality patient care. Requires relevant degrees and leadership experience; ASCP and/or AMT certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• Two years or more of experience as a Technician.
• Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits may meet education requirements per CLIA standards.
• Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication skills and high attention to detail.
• Able to pass a color blindness test.

Responsibilities

• Assist the supervisor with daily Hematology/Coagulation operations in the Core Lab.
• Send daily, weekly and monthly production reports to management.
• Assist with training of new hires and development of current employees.
• Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, and employee performance.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions per SOPs.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear PPE.

Work Schedule: 2nd Shift

Job Responsibilities

• Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the Hematology /Coagulation area of the Core Lab
• Send daily, weekly and monthly productions reports to management
• Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees
• Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
• 2 years or more of experience as a Technician

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• ASCP and/or AMT Certifications
• 1 years or more of experience supervising or leading a team

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
• Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
