Job summary

ARUP Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Client Liaison I to work at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. You will act as a liaison between the client site and ARUP divisions, handling specimen processing and client communications.

Responsibilities include processing and labeling specimens, preparing shipments per DOT/IATA guidelines, and resolving client questions. Requires high school diploma and 30 wpm typing; shift is 2pm–10:30pm with 40 hrs/week.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Typing speed of at least 30 wpm.
  • Ability to obtain and hold Certification of Completion for Handling, Packing and Shipping Infectious Substances within 6 months.
  • Experience in specimen processing, phlebotomy or a clinical lab setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process ARUP specimens and label per procedures.
  • Prepare specimens for transport following DOT/IATA guidelines.
  • Resolve client submissions issues and relay information to clients.
  • Maintain client communication and provide information on specimen requirements, fees, turnaround times and referrals.
  • Coordinate with couriers to ensure shipment schedules are met and maintain records.

Schedule:
Monday - Friday (40 hrs/wk)
2pm-10:30pm

Primary Purpose:
This position works at the client site Deaconess Hospital located at 600 Mary Street Evansville, IN 47747 and acts as a liaison between the client and ARUP’s Client Relations Training, Business Development, Technical, Marketing and Support Services division to include Specimen Processing, Information Technology, Logistics and Transportation, Quality and Compliance, and Exception Handling. The Client Liaison I interacts with clients to resolve issues related to specimen submissions and acts as a resource for client questions.

Essential Functions:
  • Pour off, label and process ARUP specimens as they become available in accordance with the specimen handling section of the ARUP test directory
  • Prepare ARUP specimens for transport to ARUP in accordance with DOT and IATA guidelines
  • Detect and resolve issues related to test or specimen submissions before shipping to ARUP.
  • Receive and initiate calls between the client site and ARUP
  • Provide information for clients which may include information regarding specimen requirements, fees, turnaround times and referral laboratory vendors
  • Assist in distributing technical information, hotlines, test bulletins and company updates to the client
  • Keep the client current on all value added services that ARUP supports, such as ATOP, Connect and Consult
  • Research pending test lists for ARUP specimens
  • Reads, understands and complies with SOP’s related to the position
  • Order and maintain supplies related to ARUP testing, keeps required inventories on hand
  • Employee may be asked to locate ARUP documentation for Public Health reporting. The individual does not report the results to a public health agency.
  • Become familiar with CAP, NY and other regulatory agency requirements where applicable
  • Maintain contact with the local and regional couriers to ensure shipment schedules are maintained, retrain as necessaryMaintain required records and documentation

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.

Experience:
  • Type 30 words per minute
  • Ability to obtain and hold a current Certification of Completion for Handling, Packing and Shipping Infectious Substances within 6 months
  • Experience in specimen processing, phlebotomy, or lab assistant in a clinical laboratory setting (Preferred)
  • Competent with Clients LIS, ARUP Connect, and be familiar with Expert Specimen Processing (ESP), Lablink, MasterControl, Pathlore, IMS, QARS and CRM (Preferred)
  • Familiar with all aspects of packing and transport of Category A, Category B, and Exempt Human specimens (Preferred)
