Job summary

Baton Rouge General Medical Center is seeking Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technologist to join our Laboratory Services. The role involves performing laboratory tests on patient specimens, interpreting data, and maintaining equipment while ensuring quality and safety standards.

Candidates must hold a Louisiana CLS MT or MLT license and demonstrate motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Must hold Louisiana CLS license (MT).
• Or hold Louisiana MLT license.
• Self-motivated with a desire to learn.
• Ability to excel in fast-paced environments and maintain accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and special clinical laboratory tests on patient specimens, correlates and interprets data.
• Investigates problems, performs maintenance of equipment, prepares reagents.
• Instructs students and new employees, and performs data entry and interpretation of results.
• Communicates effectively with physicians, nursing staff and coworkers.
• Follows safety protocols and attends departmental meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

Performs routine and special clinical laboratory tests on patient specimens, correlates and interprets data based on knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments. Investigates problems, performs corrective and preventative maintenance of equipment, prepares reagents, instructs students and new employees, and performs data entry and interpretation of test results.

• Performs various laboratory diagnostic tests on patient specimens.
• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the operation and principles of departmental instrumentation.
• Accurately interprets and reports laboratory test results.
• Communicates effectively with physicians, nursing staff, co-workers and other organizational staff.
• Observes and follows established departmental environment of care and safety protocols and practices.
• Attends departmental, organizational and continuing education meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
