The laboratory of Dr. MariCarmen Lafita-Navarro in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks an experienced laboratory technician with expertise in molecular biology experimentation.
Lab and Research Technician 2 employees provide increasingly complex technical support for projects and may engage in increasingly complex scientific experiments. May handle more sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.
Duties will include:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate's degree
Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms and metabolic needs of cancer cells are encouraged to apply. Applicants interested in this position should have experience with cell culture systems (siRNA/DNA transfections, virus production and transduction, CRISPR technology, cell clone isolation, and others), molecular and cell biology techniques (western blots, qPCR, immunofluorescence, DNA cloning, and others). Mice work experience is highly beneficial but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
This position is on-site in Charlottesville, VA.
