Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a team member for the laboratory to perform computer entry and pre-analytical processing of specimens. You will verify IDs, identify tests, and ensure specimen quality to support timely test results.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining lab equipment, performing daily QC, monitoring workflow, and providing courteous service to providers. Shift: Mon-Fri 12:30pm–9:00pm with rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in science-based STEM disciplines preferred.
• 3 months of work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform computer entry and pre-analytical specimen processing.
• Provide timely results and inquiry information to providers.
• Perform computer order entry and inquiry functions.
• Provide courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.
• Perform, document, and evaluate daily QC and adhere to QC procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation (centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers).
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
• Monitor specimen workflow and respond to STAT and other timed tests.
• Participate in departmental continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Examinations and Procedures:

• Performing pre-analytical specimen processing includes stamping in, verifying I.D., identifying tests, and evaluating specimen quality and appropriate test set up.
• Performing computer order entry and inquiry functions.
• Providing courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.
• Performing, documenting, and evaluating daily QC and follows procedure when QC is out of range.
• Performing routine operation and maintenance of instrumentation in the work area such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Maintaining workplace in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Continuously monitors specimen workflow. Ensures quick response for STAT and other timed tests.
• Participating in departmental continuous improvement projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• High School/GED required
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred in science-based STEM disciplines

Experience:

3 months of work experience.

• Monday - Friday, 12:30pm – 9:00pm, including rotating weekends
