Job summary

NBBJ is seeking a Lab Planner in the United States to lead laboratory planning for Life Sciences facilities, translating researcher needs into innovative lab designs. You will collaborate with clients and researchers to craft briefs, develop integrated concepts, and ensure designs meet technical, safety, and security criteria across the project lifecycle.

The role requires strong communication, extensive planning experience, and proficiency in tools like Revit, with a focus on delivering

Responsibilities

  • Be one of the main client liaisons to determine laboratory brief and design criteria.
  • Develop an integrated laboratory concept including environmental and equipment criteria.
  • Coordinate scheduling and technical requirements through understanding the scientific mission and integrate with building concepts.
  • Advocate for laboratory design within the project team and firm.
  • Develop and coordinate room design criteria for projects and distribute to the project team.
  • Develop and integrate laboratory equipment lists and casework layouts for projects.

This Role At a Glance

We are seeking a talented and innovative Lab Planner with relevant experience in laboratory programming, planning and design for Life Sciences companies, private research institutions and academic institutions. The ideal candidate will be able to speak with researchers and clients to identify needs, analyze the information and design science spaces and labs effectively and innovatively.


Your New Role


  • Be one of the main client liaisons to determine laboratory brief and design criteria

  • Develop an integrated laboratory concept which includes specialist environmental and equipment driven criteria

  • Schedule planning and technical requirements through an understanding of the scientific mission for the facility including design, security, safety, and integrate these with overall building, engineering and structural concepts

  • Be an advocate for the laboratory design within the project team and firm

  • Develop and coordinate room design criteria for projects and distribute to and coordinate with the project team

  • Develop and integrate laboratory equipment lists and casework layouts for projects


What You Will Need To Succeed


  • 10+ years of planning experience on complex facilities

  • Track record of production of accurate drawings and project deliverables on time

  • Revit skills a plus

  • Excellent written, verbal and graphic, communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work as part of team, ability to work well under pressure

  • Proactive and independent approach to work and ownership of assigned tasks


The annual base pay range for this role dependent on location. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience, approximately $115,000-$125,000/year.


This role requires the individual to be based in the United States.
