Job description

Position Summary

The Certified Laboratory Phlebotomist performs laboratory specimen collection following approved policies and procedures. At least 80% of productive time is performing phlebotomy procedures.

Schedule: Monday through Saturday 6:30am to 3:00pm; Saturdays rotation when needed.

Location: Outpatient draw station NBT ORMC

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Perform peripheral IV insertion.
  • Work outside the immediate laboratory setting as needed.
  • Communicate with immediate supervisor regarding issues impacting patient care.
  • Support patient registration and demonstrate knowledge of third-party reimbursement requirements and regulations.
  • Understand specimen collection and handling requirements.
  • Use hospital and laboratory information systems for specimen processing, billing, reference testing, and scheduling.
  • Maintain appropriate supplies.
  • Provide positive customer service and respond proactively to issues.
  • Train staff as required.
  • Work flexible hours to meet department needs.
  • Coordinate and perform outreach phlebotomy services.
  • Coordinate laboratory specimen collection for inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with team members and respond to customer calls.
  • Act as liaison between laboratory, physicians, nursing, other departments, clients, and vendors.
  • Follow policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance per Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
